Duane Smith has over 13 years experience in business and spent most of this time with a major oil company in various roles based in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, London and Paris. Duane has held senior management positions in marketing, finance, project management and operations, providing a broad managerial exposure. He has travelled extensively for business and pleasure throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. Duane has also worked as a business manager in a Brisbane law firm.

Duane recognised that the proliferation of small business start-ups meant that increasingly, people were going into business with a good idea but perhaps insufficient experience to make it a success. He recently set up Nomos Corporation Pty Ltd to assist small businesses to grow.

Effective business management and improvement, organisational adaptability to change and business development are key drivers for success. Duane has taken his experience from a leading global corporation and found these disciplines can be adapted to small and medium enterprises in the right form. Duane’s biggest buzz comes from assisting busy business owners who want to improve, but lack the structure and time to do it themselves. Duane has a wide practical knowledge of experience from oil and biodiesel industries through to the marine industry and law practice management. He is a member of the Law Practice Management Association.

Duane’s particular passions include most things French, as well as reading, wine, food and sailing, all in equal proportions. He is actively involved with his children’s school community.

Valérie is an experienced linguist and business adviser, having worked in the oil, chemical and telecommunication industries in Europe and Australia. Valérie speaks English, French and German and holds dual French/Australian nationality.

She divides her time up between advisory marketing work and administration for Nomos and her own business of French language tuition and English to French translation. Valérie also has experience in office management, project management, organisational change, sales and logistics.

Valérie derives much pleasure from teaching French language to young children, through the application of innovative ideas and methods.
